Ranting about iPhone firmware v1.1.1

Posted by Scott Mahan on October 8, 2007 in iPhone |

iPhoneSo, many of us updated our iPhone’s firmware to v1.1.1. A few of us (thank God, not me), bricked our iPhones. And then there are those that stayed on 1.0.2.

I’ve got to say that I do appreciate some of Apple’s enhancements. The double-press of the home button is a time saver. As is double-space = period-space. But what do I miss?

I miss my custom ringtones the most. It was nice to know who was calling based on the MP3’s that I installed using iToner. I was having fun using AppTap, but to tell you the truth, now that it has been a few weeks, there are only a few third-party apps that I can even recall, let alone miss (pardon me if I mis-spell any of them): Summerboard, VoiceMemo, ToDoList, and Navizon.

There may be good news around the corner. The iPhone Dev Team is working hard to jailbreak v1.1.1 and as of today, they’re making progress. But my question to you is: Given all the iPhone bricking that happened with 1.1.1, would you even risk it again?
