The technology sector and many Apple enthusiasts are in mourning today as Apple announced the passing of co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs. There’s not much more I can say. Apple has changed their homepage to a memorial to Steve Jobs. They’ve also put up a seperate page in his memory.

Through their colleagues at Woot, Amazon is offering as today’s Gold Box Deal of the Day Sony’s Dash, which is similar to the Chumby, for only $74.99. This is 63% off their normal price of $199.99. But if you look further, $199.99 is the retail price. You can buy it direct from Amazon for $99.95, so you’re really only saving 25%/$25. And if you’re an Amazon Prime member, you won’t get your free 2-day shipping since the $74.99 deal is through Woot. And lastly, keep in mind that Sony is introducing an updated version of this product sometime this summer that will have a built-in battery and come in candy colors reminiscent of the old iMacs.

While I have no experience with this product, I have been looking for a bedside device to play Pandora Radio and Netflix. For less than $75 and free shipping, I figure it’s worth the try. I just hope that since it is being sold through Woot that I can return it if it sucks horribly. Hopefully if that’s the case, Amazon will intervene with their awesome customer service. I’ll be sure to post a review in a few weeks.

If you’ve ever owned a case made by Waterfield and you own a Nintendo 3DS, then you are already heading over to their website. If Waterfield is news to you, then listen up.

Waterfield makes cases/bags for most electronic equipment. I personally own several of their products. In fact, I own both their Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi bags. And now that I own a Nintendo 3DS, I’m looking forward to Waterfield’s three (3) new offerings for it. If they are anything like their previous Nintendo DS/DSi cases, then I know I will be impressed. Until I get my hands on them, here is what Waterfield has to say about them:

Re: Launch of New Portable Game Machine

Nintendo Co., Ltd.(Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch “N intendo 3D S”(temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.

“Nintendo 3DS”(temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed “Nintendo DS series”, whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.

We are planning to announce additional details at E3 show, which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the U.S.

News: iTunes sales top 3 billion songs

The iTunes Store, which debuted on April 28, 2003, has sold its 3 billionth song. Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes, is quoted as saying “we’d like to thank all of our customers who have contributed to this incredible milestone.” It took Apple almost 3 years to sell the 1st billion, less than 1 year to sell the 2nd billion, and less than 6 months for the 3rd billion. At this rate, I predict that iTunes will sell its 4 billionth song by years end.

News: iPhone now ships within 24 hours

Yesterday, The Apple Store went down for a short while. What was the big news? Apple is now shipping the iPhone within 24 hours. So if you haven’t gotten yours already, the wait will be even shorter.

News: Bejeweled for the iPhone

Yesterday, PopCap Games released a free iPhone version of Bejeweled. How does it play? Depending on your access (Edge vs WiFi), it takes about a minute to download. Once you start playing, it flows well. Is it as good as a local version of Bejeweled on a Treo, no. The animation isn’t as smooth and you can’t choose your next move while the jewels are falling. And unless I was doing something wrong, it is missing the addictive sound and music.

Overall, props to PopCap Games. They’ve shown that it is possible to make a decent iPhone game on the web. I’m looking forward to what other software developers are able to deliver.
